Boy killed man in cigarette row 26 May 2006
A 16-year-old boy has been convicted of manslaughter after fatally stabbing a man in a row over cigarettes.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, attacked father-of-two Simon Davies, 26, with a kitchen knife outside his home in Stretford.
The boy had been ejected from the house, and started smashing windows and shouting, Manchester Crown Court heard.
He was remanded to a young offenders' centre while reports are prepared, and will be sentenced on 16 June.
Mr Davies, who had a two-year-old son and whose girlfriend was expecting their second child, came out of his house to remonstrate, but the boy stabbed him in the chest with the knife.
'Devastating incident'
He collapsed on the pavement and the boy ran away. Paramedics took Mr Davies to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he died.
Det Sgt John Fox from Greater Manchester Police said: "This has been a devastating incident for all of the people involved, especially Simon Davies's family.
"It is terrible to think that Simon was killed over a disagreement over something as seemingly trivial as a cigarette.
"I hope today's court result will show people how dangerous knives can be. It only takes one stab wound to take someone's life and the consequences for both the offender and victim are vast." Read
