News from the 2006 RTDA:
It's so much fun to go to the RTDA, for lots of reasons. The best part is to taste new cigars and them bring them home for you, our valued customers! So let me try to impart some of the wonderful new stogies you can expect:
** From Oliva, the 'Master Blend 3' is the third offering in a limited blend. The 'liga Maestra' is a complex cigar, appropriate for the most developed palette. The wrapper is a Broadleaf Sun-grown, with a Nicaraguan Habano binder, and a rich Nicaraguan Ligero filler. These will sell in the $9.00 Robusto; $11.00 Double Robusto and/or Churchill size; and $12.00 in the Torpedo shape.
* The 'Special S' is a Nicaraguan cigar, aged for 5 years in cedar crates (bringing out the natural richness and keeping the smoothness it's known for). Wrapper is Ecuadorian Sun-grown, the binder is Cuban Seed Nicaraguan, and Filler is the Nicaraguan Habano. Try this in a 7 x 48 Diadema ($11.00) if you dare. Or, in a traditional Torpedo, Toro, or Robusto.
* The 'Series O' is available in either a Nicaraguan puro, or a Maduro. We will have them for you in traditional sizes, or in the Perfecto or Double Toro Size. The main difference in this cigar is that the tobacco is grown in a different area of northern Nicaragua, giving it the distinct taste.
* The African Cameroon wrapper cigar, 'Series G', will also be available in Maduro, made with a rich Broadleaf wrapper. Both varieties will feature a Cuban-seed Habano binder and Nicaraguan Habano binder. (At 3 3/4 x 48, the Special G figurado size is going to make those Short Story shortages much easier to handle. The sample we brought back was a hit!)
* We have been extremely happy with all the cigars from Oliva and it is a welcome addition to our store.
** What's new with Drew? Well, aside from the 'Acid 5' cigars, which we have had but others have not (and people were raving about them at the booth), they released the 'Dark Angel' in the Natural line. Again, my customers have had the opportunity to buy them, but if you haven't, they are a “ramped-up” version of the Root, in a dark maduro wrapper, with a torpedo shape and without the sweet tip. Deeelish...
* For more traditional smokers, there is now the new 'Chateau Real'. This is a blend that Jonathan worked on for over a year, trying to perfect the traditional Cuban cigars of years ago--mild, flavorful, creamy and smooth, but with real body. These will be available mostly in boxes of 25, and they will sell at around $5.00 and slightly higher. I was really surprised to taste such a thoroughly delicious traditional cigar at such affordable prices. These will be on everyone's list for sure!
* Another new item will be the 'Ambrosia Clove Tiki Tins' (ascot/cigarillo), packed 10 to a tin. And Acid Wafes in the Hard Pak. Many of you had requested this, and here they will be.
* There will also be new wrappers added to the 'La Vieja Habana Fumas': Connecticut shade, Brazilian Maduro, and African Cameroon. The original Cuban Corojo will still be availabe for those of you who do not want anything different!
* DID I MENTION NATURAL 'BROOKLYN' WILL BE BACK!! VERY SOON!!!..and definitely worth the wait..
** CAO has outdone themselves with their new 'Vision' line. It is aptly named. When you taste these cigars and see the 21st Century vision and techno boxes they come in, you will agree. The cigars feature a four year old Dominican Corojo wrapper (yup, plenty spicy), a Dominican Piloto Cubano binder, and Dominican/Nicaraguan/Brazilian filler. You will find notes of cedar, leather, dark cooa and roasted nuts (OK, I can't find all the notes but I never have). This is a medium to full bodied cigar, and I can attest to the spiciness, but not mouth-burning, taste. These cigars are each quality tested, and come in a state-of-the-art box which has been calibrated to ensure the proper humidity (68% - 72%). The boxes double as travel humidors, with a hygrometer on the outside facing of each box. Incredible! (One of our expert customers just finished the Vision sample that we brought back
and gave it an all out rave!)
* We are also glad the 'Criollo' line will be available in more traditional packaging, making it easier to store and display. They are a consistent, good-selling cigar which has continued to gain admirers.
** The Carlos Torano Family has been busy working to bring the new 'Noventa “90” cigars to you. These are to celebrate the family's 90 year tradition of growing premium tobacco, and are made from the best five year old Nicaraguan tobacco, then aged in reserve until they peak--bringing out the elegant, rich, smooth and perfectly balanced flavor in a medium bodied cigar. This is a must-try. And of course they will complement the other fabulous Torano lines: Exodus 1959; Exodus 1959 Silver Edition; Reserva Selecta Tubos; Signature; Casa Torano; Cameroon; and the incredible Virtuoso blend.
** And for everyone who has been asking, YES, the Perdomo Edición de Silvio(r) will be back in stock. This highly limited extension of the Estate Selección(r) brand hailed as the "crown jewel" of Perdomo's family of cigar brands and made as a tribute to honor the memory of Nick Perdomo Jr.'s late grandfather and mentor, Silvio Perdomo. The esoteric all-Cuban seed tobaccos, cultivated into a binder and filler crop which Perdomo and grandfather Silvio began aging before his passing in 1997, have been exclusively fermented in large wooden "bins" that were specially created by using Spanish cedar and 50+-year old vintage oak casks. According to Perdomo, Edición de Silvio(r) is a smoking experience that yields an impressive, robust taste with an undercurrent of delicate and complex tones. Edición de Silvio(r) is fastidiously handcrafted in reverence to Silvio Perdomo's most cherished vitolas: the
"Robusto" (5" x 54); "Double Corona" (7 5/8" x 50), and "No. 2 Torpedo" (6 1/8" x 54).
* As well, the 'Limited Edition Golf' is back. This highly complex, full-bodied smoke is not for everyone, only those with a highly developed palate, able to handle the strong nicotine encompassed within each cigar. These complement the Perdomo line of mouth-watering Champagne, and the Cameroon, Maduro, and Sun-Grown wrapper cigars of the Reservas.
** While Christian Eiroa and his dad, Julio, do not always agree on everything, they agree that the 'Liberty 2006' is one of the smoothest, creamiest (if any Camacho can be creamy!!) Liberty cigars offered. This may be due to the perfect Cameroon wrapper and the 44 yr. old tobacco used. Get them while they are still around, it won't be long before they are gone.
* If you haven't smoked the 'Camacho Legend-arios', they are now offered in true maduro and/or corojo wrapper. Sit down for these..... A true, full-bodied, Honduran cigar for the true cigar lover. Finally, a true COROJO MADURO, which is neither broadleaf nor Mexican, but a real corojo maduro. Perfect.
That should give you all plenty to think about for the moment. We will continue to keep you up to date on what went on and what is coming down the pipeline. Thank you all for your business and your attention. Sit back, relax, enjoy your cigars and be well ...
